The first vicarage in Evijärvi was called Honkiniemi (nowadays Ruurikkala), it was established in 1762. The first vicar Karl Alfred Calamnius arrived to the parish in summer of 1877. Calamnius was born in 1829 in Kruununkylä and he was ordained in 1853. Three more rooms was build into the vicarage in 1877.
Since 1901 vicarage consisted of a main building, farm labourers house, stable, cowshed, granary, two shops, new sauna, chicken yard and two barns.
The old dean died at age of 79 in 1908 after he had been the vicar of Evijärvi for 32 years. Dean was much liked among the locals and he looked after his congregation in patriarchal way of the old times. He is remembered as kind and calm man who never boasted.
During the days of the old dean the vicarage was the be all and end all for the local residents, as it served as a drugstore, the doctor, guest house and even a post office.
The oldest son of Calamnius was allegedly the first amateur photographer of Evijärvi. Sons of the vicarage had also the first bicycles in the town. Calamnius and salesman Rudbäck formed The Sailing and Rowing Club of Evijärvi (subdivision of Helsinki Rowing Club).
Deans nephew Rurik Calamnius became the vicar of Evijärvi in 1917. Rurik was sociable and quick-witted, a strong preacherman and a poet. Ruriks brother Ilmari Kianto paid visits during summertime and on other holidays to his family vicarage already during the days of the old dean.
Finnish language was not spoken much in the vicarage. There are still people living in Evijärvi who have completed their confirmation class in Ruurikkala.
All together 14 full time ministers of the congregation served in Ruurikkala, former Honkiniemi. Latest was Olavi Kaukola. A new vicarage was built during his time and it is located close to the church. Old vicarage was turned into a home for the elderly.
New home for the elderly was built in 1991 and Honkiniemi vicarage was renovated for tourism.
